Latest Pharmaceutical Treatments in Eye Care

1. VUITY™ (pilocarpine hydrochloride ophthalmic solution) 1.25% is a prescription eye drop used to treat age-related blurry near vision (presbyopia) in adults. Use: One drop daily in each eye. Maximum effect occurs at around 15 minutes after instillation and lasts approximately 6 hours. The medication causes the pupils to constrict which may improve near vision. Possible side effects: Poor night vision, headache, red eye. These are not the only potential side effects. Contraindications: History of retinal detachment, iritis, high near-sightedness. IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION Do not use VUITY if you are allergic to any of the ingredients. Use caution when driving at night or performing hazardous activities in poor lighting. Temporary problems when changing focus between near and distant objects may occur. Do not drive or use machinery if vision is not clear. If you wear contact lenses, they should be removed prior to VUITY use. Wait 10 minutes after dosing before reinserting contact lenses. If more than one topical eye medication is being used, the medicines must be administered at least 5 minutes apart. 2. TYRVAYA™ (Teer-vye-ah) (varenicline solution) What is TYRVAYA? TYRVAYA is a prescription nasal spray used to treat the signs and symptoms of dry eye disease. How should I use TYRVAYA? • TYRVAYA increases tear production in the eye after being sprayed in the nose. • Use TYRVAYA exactly as your healthcare provider tells you to use it. • Do not shake the bottles. • Spray TYRVAYA 1 time in each nostril, 2 times daily (about 12 hours apart). • A 1-month supply of TYRVAYA consists of 2 nasal spray bottles. Finish 1 bottle before opening the second. TYRVAYA comes in glass bottles with a white nasal pump and blue dust cover. • If you miss a dose of TYRVAYA, skip that dose and take your next dose at your regular scheduled time. Do not take an extra dose to make up for a missed dose. What are the possible side effects of TYRVAYA? The most common side effects of TYRVAYA include sneezing, cough, and throat and nose irritation. 3. UPNEEQ is an eye drop used once a day to give a temporary "lift" to the upper eye lids. If your upper eye lids are blocking you field of vision, or if you desire a more youthful appearance, Upneeq may be for you!
